Werregue is an ancestral art of the Wounaan indigenous people of Colombia, consisting of the meticulous weaving of natural fibers from the Werregue palm tree. Each piece is entirely handmade using a fine needle, spirally wrapping the fibers to create a smooth, even surface. The vibrant colors are obtained using natural dyes from plants and minerals, and the geometric patterns tell stories inspired by nature and indigenous traditions. A true work of art, a werregue basket is the result of a know-how passed down from generation to generation, sometimes requiring several months of work.
